Document pockets on big bags: keep labels and papers with the goods

Most big bags carry a document pocket for the delivery note, batch card or product label. Choose the size, number and position that suits your logistics.

A document pocket in A4 or A5, sewn to the top or side seam, holds delivery notes and labels. Choose the number, position, orientation, opening and an optional zip.

A document pocket is a transparent pouch sewn onto a big bag (FIBC) to hold the papers that travel with the goods: delivery notes, batch and lot cards, certificates of analysis, customs papers or a product label. DIV Trades fits document pockets in DIN A4 or DIN A5, one or several per bag, vertical or horizontal, on the top seam or a side seam, with the opening at the side, top or back and an optional zip closure. All our stock big bags have an A4 pocket as standard.

Document pocket configuration

Number of pockets

One pocket is standard. Two or more pockets are useful when a bag passes through several parties, for example one for the producer's label and one for the carrier's documents.

Size: DIN A4 or DIN A5

A4 takes a full delivery note or safety data sheet without folding. A5 is enough for a product label or batch card and sits better on small bags.

Orientation: vertical or horizontal

Vertical (portrait) pockets suit standard A4 documents. Horizontal (landscape) pockets are chosen when the pocket sits high on the bag or when labels are printed landscape.

Position: top seam or side seam

On the top seam the pocket is reachable when bags are stacked close together; on the side seam it is visible when bags stand on the floor or on pallets.

Opening: side, top or back

A top opening is the easiest to fill by hand; a side or back opening keeps papers in place when the bag is lifted and reduces rain entering the pocket.

Optional zip closure

A zip keeps documents from falling out during transport and handling, which is important for sea freight or for bags that are moved many times.

Why use a document pocket?

Bulk goods change hands several times between the filling line and the end user. A pocket keeps the paperwork physically attached to the goods, so the batch can be identified without a scanner or a database, and it saves the labels from being glued to the fabric, where they often peel off. Variable information belongs in the pocket; fixed information such as your logo and the product name is better printed on the bag.

For UN big bags and conductive Type C bags the pocket is also a practical place for the test certificate or the grounding instruction. The pocket does not affect the SWL and SF of the bag.

Special requirements

If you need a different pocket size, a different position, or pockets on two opposite sides for scanning from either direction, ask our sales team. Special pocket layouts are part of our individual designs.

What sizes of document pocket are available?

DIN A4 and DIN A5, in vertical or horizontal orientation. Other sizes can be made on request.

Where is the document pocket placed on a big bag?

Either on the top seam or on a side seam, with the opening at the side, top or back. One or more pockets per bag are possible.

Can the pocket be closed?

Yes. An optional zip closure keeps the documents in the pocket during transport and handling.

Is a document pocket standard on your bags?

All bags on our stock list have an A4 pocket. For made-to-order bags you decide whether and how many pockets are fitted.
